Ingredients
- 1½ lb stewing steak cubed
- 1 onion chopped
- 5 pickled walnuts roughly crushed
- 1 T flour + flour for dusting
- salt and pepper
- ½ t sugar
- 500 mls stock
- 1 bay leaf
- A slice of lemon
- neutral oil

Instructions
- Dip the meat in seasoned flour and brown in the oil. Remove to your casserole
- Brown the onions in the same pan and add to the meat together with the bay leaf and lemon
- Make a paste with the flour and some of the stock and slowly add this to the remaining stock + sugar, stirring until it thickens
- Add the stock to the casserole together with the walnuts
- Cover and cook in a slow oven, 150 C, for 2 hours or so until the meat is tender
Recipe Notes
Serve with noodles, rice or mashed potatoes. Serves 4 generously.
