Ingredients
- 75 G yellow split peas (washed) mung dal
- 75 G red split lentils (washed) masoor dal
- ½ t ground turmeric
- 900 mls water
- 1 t Salt
- 3 T neutral oil
- ½ t cumin seeds
- 2 hot dried chilies
- 1 clove garlic crushed

Instructions
- Place the dals in a heavy pan and add the water and the turmeric
- Bring to the boil and then simmer for 40-45 minutes until the dal are very soft
- Stir in the salt, cover pan and remove from heat
- Briefly fry the cumin and the chillies in the oil. Add the garlic and brown lightly
- Pour the contents of the frying pan onto the dal. Cover for a few minutes and then serve
